10 Affordable Designer Level Things To Buy At Ikea

I picked these 10 affordable designer level things to buy at ikea because they are items I have personally bought and can attest to. I’m not making any money from this post, it’s my own opinion and experience!

These 10 affordable designer level things to buy at ikea made it on the list because they’ve stood the test of time, are affordable options, are good quality, and add next level character to a home without shouting to the world “look at me I’m from Ikea!”

Many people who admire design and decor but are on a budget are drawn to Ikea. They have a very large inventory that is ever changing, and their higher end products are made with quality material and finishes.

Many people though, get “Ikea showroom syndrome (I totally made that up but I bet it’s real); their home looks like it’s straight out of Ikea.

Too many Ikea pieces take your space from beautiful and original, to cheap and low end.

But if you buy strategically, you can incorporate Ikea pieces into your home design and create lovely spaces loaded with charm and character!

Below is a list of 10 affordable designer level things to buy at Ikea

1: HAVSTA display cabinet

I love this cabinet! It’s made with real wood and comes in a variety of colours. It can hold a ton and has gorgeous glass doors and shelves.

2: FINNALA Sofa

This couch really is amazing. Washable covers, hidden storage, firm yet so comfortable. And the beige natural colour adds so much texture and warmth to a room. I can’t even count the amount of compliments I get on this couch!

3: INGO/IVAR table and chair set

This set is made from 100% pine and you can customize it! Your able to paint, stain or seal it because it’s raw material when you buy. I left mine raw because I could never choose what to do with it. I’m currently sitting at this table right now as I write this post! (sorry I don’t have a good picture of my own at the moment!)

4: KALKRUND glass shelving

If you want simple shelving that will blend in with your space and let the items on it do all of the talking, these shelves are for you. So easy to install, and are built to last! When we moved I brought these with me because I love them so much, but I haven’t had time to reinstall them in our tiny house bathroom!

5: FEJKA Fake plants

Mixing some of these fake plants with real ones around your home is such a good idea if you have minimal time to invest in live houseplants. Everyone assumes my fake plants are real because I have live ones spotting my home as well.

The nice part about these plants are they come in a small black plastic container, so you can set them in any pot you’d like, making it an original piece!

6: HIMLEAN bath towels

These bath towels are large, thick and so absorbent. Mine have been washed over and over for years and still look exactly the same as when I bought them! The shades of colour are beautiful and add a lot to your space.

7: PROPPMÄTT cutting boards

I use these cutting boards daily and always have them on display in my kitchen! They are thick and durable, perfect boards for a chef’s kitchen.

8: BERGPALM 100% cotton bedsheets/covers

Ikea’s sheet line surprised me. They are very well made with an everchanging rotation of sophisticated colours and patterns.

I know the photo could be better but this is the only one I have of a real bed! (we currently live in a tiny house on wheels and a camper smooshed together so our bed looks a little different now!)

9: knobs!

Ikea’s selection of knobs is extensive. There are so many beautiful finishes and shapes, it can be overwhelming! But one thing stands; sleek hardware can level up any piece of furniture and when you match finishes it can carry a fluid feel throughout your entire home.

10: JONAXEL storage unit

This is the last because this is the item I’ve had the longest! And actually, I’m the second owner. A family member gave it to me and said they had owned it for years already! This piece adds so much storage and functionality to a space, perfect for your laundry room or craft room.

A Lovely Place Called Home
A Lovely Place Called Home

This podcast is a practical tool for your homesteading toolbelt. Each episode walks through the real numbers, systems, and decisions behind building a working homestead — not the aesthetic version, the functional one. We break down cost analyses, infrastructure planning, off-grid setups, livestock math, garden yields, land considerations, and whether an idea actually makes financial and logistical sense for your life.

If you’ve ever wondered “Could we really do this?” — this is where we run the numbers and find out. No hype. No fantasy. Just clear thinking, grounded strategy, and honest evaluation so you can build something stable, sustainable, and strong for your family.

Off Grid Bathroom: Toilets, Showering, Water Systems ep.10
byMicheon Hutchings

In this episode, I’m walking you through one of the most practical parts of off-grid living: the bathroom setup.

We’re talking toilets, showers, and how our water system work day to day while living off grid. This is one of those things people are always curious about, because it’s easy to picture the cozy side of homestead life, but the real questions usually come down to everyday systems.

How do you shower? Where does the water come from? What do you do for a toilet?

I’m sharing what our real-life setup looks like, what works for us, and some of the things we learned over the years of living this way. If you’re considering off-grid living, planning a tiny house, or just curious how these systems actually work, I hope this episode gives you a clear and honest look inside our day-to-day life.
