What to do when you have no routine

If you’re just reading this for the cute printables and you DO in fact have things quite under control with rhythms and routines in place; I salute you! (And please let me know how I can follow you on social media so I can be inspired, I’m serious I love those accounts!)

But if you’re more in the same place as me where life is a bit chaotic and you never really nail down a schedule or routine for very long, I’d recommend to-do lists.

To-do lists seem to be the only constant in the “planner” part of my life. I fail at family calendars, fail at staying on top of my taxes, fail at any type of paper planner… if I’m being honest, anything that needs repetition at specific times I’m pretty much guaranteed to fail! It’s just not how I function, and not how I accomplish things.

If you know me you may think what I’m saying is untrue, considering all that I do in the day on our homestead.

But planning ahead for daily tasks isn’t something I do. And that’s why I have to-do lists instead!

I just need to write everything down for the day or the week and then cross it off as I complete each thing. Forget morning tidy up times or daily chore charts. I just need a list to tell me what to do in the day and I’ll put my head down and get it done! (hopefully)

My “routine” is nothing special

I love sharing ways to make your life more beautiful, conquer your dreams, and achieve anything you set your mind to.

But when it comes to scheduling and routines I definitely don’t live that way. Are you feeling the same?

Fist bump if we are together in this. And guess what? It’s okay to live differently than most people.

One way I’ve combated the chaos is by writing out lists. My lists included anything and everything I want to see completed in the day, week, or season. Most “planner people” call this a brain dump.

I’ve made several printable to-do lists for you to keep on hand when you make lists for yourself and your family.

Beautiful printable family to do lists for everyday use – below are all of the options!

I’ve created printer friendly to-do lists that you can fill with whatever you need to at any time in your life. They are made specifically for your ever changing schedule and routine, and can be shared with your spouse and family. You choose everything. There’s no point in me guessing what you need to do and then putting it on the lists for you- only for you to have to cross it out!

And the lists are BIG. I hate tiny little note size lists. I need BIG and BOLD to keep reminding me that I in fact do have a list to complete.

A Lovely Place Called Home
A Lovely Place Called Home

This podcast is a practical tool for your homesteading toolbelt. Each episode walks through the real numbers, systems, and decisions behind building a working homestead — not the aesthetic version, the functional one. We break down cost analyses, infrastructure planning, off-grid setups, livestock math, garden yields, land considerations, and whether an idea actually makes financial and logistical sense for your life.

If you’ve ever wondered “Could we really do this?” — this is where we run the numbers and find out. No hype. No fantasy. Just clear thinking, grounded strategy, and honest evaluation so you can build something stable, sustainable, and strong for your family.

We Sold Everything To Move North And Farm Off Grid… AGAIN Ep.13
byMicheon Hutchings

For years, we believed we had found the farm we would stay on forever.

We built our off-grid home, raised our family, and poured our hearts into creating a life that felt deeply rooted. Leaving was never part of the plan.

But life has a way of surprising us. Or should I say, God LOL

In this episode, I’m sharing the full story behind our decision to sell our farm, move north to Manitoulin Island, and start over on a completely new property. I’ll talk about the challenges, the uncertainty, the excitement, and the lessons we’ve learned through one of the biggest transitions our family has ever faced.

If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re making the right decision, struggled to let go of a dream, or found yourself standing at the beginning of a new chapter, I hope this conversation encourages you!

Thank you for listening to A Lovely Place Called Home Podcast. If you enjoyed today’s episode, be sure to subscribe and leave a review—it helps more people find the show.
